Our History

In the spring of 2001, the 26th Street church of Christ reached out to its college-age members by starting an Adopt-a-Student Program. Soon after, the congregation noticed more Marshall students and other young-adults actively involved in the church. By the fall of 2002, the “college group” was meeting regularly on Friday nights for a time of food, fun, and devotion. Recognizing the evangelistic potential in Marshall University, the congregation started its on-campus ministry in 2005. Thanks to the efforts of all & the increase given by God, the group has grown to 30+ active members. Now known on campus as Herd4Christ, the group is officially recognized by the university & holds weekly, on-campus Bible studies.

Having Fun Together

Part of Herd4Christ’s purpose is to provide young adults a Christian atmosphere in which they can enjoy the company of others whose focus is godly living. Members of the group often get together to cookout, see a movie, play ultimate Frisbee, or attend Marshall sporting events. We also meet every Friday for a time of fun & fellowship. Other group events have included campouts, retreats, ski trips, caving expeditions, and Reds baseball games.

Doing Good Together

Herd4Christ is not only about having fun – It is also about doing good for others. Our service projects have included Leaf-Raking Drives, Clothing Drives, Thanksgiving “Meals-on-Wheels,” and volunteering a weekend of our time to assist Midwestern Children’s Home in Pleasant Plain, OH.

Through such efforts, it is our aim to be living sacrifices and to allow our lights to shine in such a way that God is glorified.
